Terumo Launches New Safety Injection Needle
Global medical innovation company, Terumo, has unveiled the global commercial launch of its new safety injection needle, K-Pack Embrace. The new needle is packaged in a rigid cap and case container that has been designed to simplify downstream co-packing processes while also protecting the needle through the product lifecycle until the point of use (1).
By co-packing drug products with a pre-selected injection needle, it is possible to significantly reduce potential risks to the end user and improve convenience for healthcare professionals all while maintaining the value proposition of the product for drug companies. For automated co-packing processes, however, enhanced hard-shell protection of needles is required for ease of handling during the process and to maintain needle sterility and performance over the desired shelf-life.
Terumo’s new safety needle has been specifically designed for automated co-packing processes with its compact hard-shell case. The needle is intended to be used for subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous applications, incorporating the T-Sharp technology with integrated needle shield safety features.
Available in either 1” (25 mm), or 5/8” (16 mm) lengths, the needle is compatible with all ISO 80369-7 make connectors and its color-coded, tamper-evident label includes a 2D barcode that supports automated in-line visual inspection. Additionally, with its integrated hinged needle shield, which can be activated using one hand, the needle reduces the risk of needle stick injuries.
