Serán Bioscience Secures Investment to Expand Commercial Manufacturing

CDMO, Serán Bioscience, has secured a growth investment to expand its manufacturing operations in Bend, Oregon, and extend its services from early-stage formulation and clinical manufacturing through to commercial supply. Central to the expansion is a new multi-suite facility that Serán expects to complete in the third quarter of 2027 (1).
The new facility will support occupational exposure band 4 (OEB4) manufacturing across oral, pulmonary, and other delivery routes, while its commercial-scale spray-drying and nano-milling capabilities will enable Serán to advance complex formulations from clinical development to commercial production. Additionally, the company plans to add finished-dose manufacturing, including granulation, tableting, coating and encapsulation.
Specialized dry-powder filling for inhalation products will be available, while the site is expected to support both immediate- and modified-release formulations. The new building will sit alongside a recently completed packaging and logistics facility that will provide validated packaging and labelling, unit-level serialization and global cold-chain distribution.
“This investment is a significant milestone in Serán’s evolution as we rapidly scale our clinical manufacturing operations to support launches of new medicines, as well as serve new clients seeking a state-of-the-art commercial manufacturing partner,” said Dan Smithey, Co-Founder and CEO of Serán, in a company press release (1). “With the invaluable backing of Biospring Partners, alongside our long-standing partners at Bain Capital and Vivo Capital, we are well-positioned to complete our greenfield commercial facility on schedule and deliver seamless, life-changing therapies from early-phase discovery through commercial launch.”
The expansion builds on Serán’s existing development, analytical, and clinical manufacturing services for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. By broadening its formulation and manufacturing capabilities, the company aims to provide larger-scale production and supply from the same Bend campus.
Serán says the development will create an integrated campus of more than 200,000 square feet. The company currently employs more than 200 people — including over 150 scientists and engineers — and expects to hire up to 150 additional staff as the commercial expansion progresses.
