MedPharm Signs Deal to Transfer Commercial Production of Topical Drug

MedPharm has signed an agreement with a global pharmaceutical company to support the commercial site transfer and manufacture of a branded specialty topical drug at its Durham, North Carolina, facility in the U.S. (1). Under the terms of the agreement, MedPharm will provide technical transfer services to prepare the product for commercial production, with the deal expected to generate technology transfer revenue in 2026 and 2027, followed by commercial manufacturing revenue in 2027.
“We are very pleased to finalize yet another important deal this year, in this instance supporting a cornerstone client who is moving a branded specialty pharmaceutical product to our site,” said Bill Humphries, MedPharm’s CEO, in a company press release (1). “We look forward to working closely with our partner to support the successful transfer of this product and help bring an important treatment option to patients who need it most.”
The agreement represents Medpharm’s fifth commercial deal over the past 20 months and adds to the company’s commercial manufacturing portfolio as it reinforces its position as a manufacturing partner for topical and transdermal drugs. The company’s services span formulation development, in vitro testing, and clinical and commercial manufacturing, operating from both the United States and the United Kingdom.
Since merging with Tergus Pharma in 2024 (2), MedPharm has continued to expand its commercial manufacturing capabilities. In August 2026, the company announced the expansion of its end-to-end proteomic analysis capabilities by becoming an Olink Certified Service Provider (CSP) (3).
“Becoming an Olink Certified Service Provider extends MedPharm into targeted, multiplex protein biomarker analysis for the first time,” explained Jon Lenn, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer, MedPharm, in a press release about the expanded capabilities (3). “We are the only contract research organization with Certified Service Provider status in the Carolinas, and this platform lets us bring that capability to sponsors directly rather than through a third party. This certification is also the first step in a broader plan to expand MedPharm’s capabilities as a contract research organization, supporting clinical trial sample analysis and translational models that support clinical development.”
Additionally, earlier this year, its Durham facility completed an FDA inspection with no Form 483 observations and received a No Action Indicated classification (4). The inspection outcome, alongside the company’s latest commercial agreement, points to positive momentum for the topical and transdermal CDMO.
